Message From President MDA 2019/21

Dr Leong Kei Joe

Date 20.6.2019

Dear esteemed members of the association,

Greetings from Malaysian Dental Association!

We have just concluded our 76th Annual General Meeting on the 16th June 2019. Indeed it is a great honour for me to be here addressing to all of you for the first time as the President of MDA. We are indeed proud to announce that the new Principal Office Bearers of MDA

Dr Leong Kei Joe

As with my predecessor, I have not the opportunity to put forth my manifesto previously. I was a member of the association way back in 1997, signed by the President then, Dr Tan Yoke Sing. I had the opportunity to be actively involved in the association since 2010 when the MDAEZ was formed. I had been through as a pro-tem committee (thanks to Dr John Ting Sii Ong) of MDAEZ, Chairman (including EXCO, Treasurer, Secretary) of MDAEZ, elected council member of MDA, later served on the post of Hon Pub Sec, Hon Gen Sec, and eventually President Elect. I also have the opportunity to organise conferences at zone level, MDA SCATE and now MIDEC 2019 and a few National (World Oral Health Day) and zone level CSR projects. The reason I am still here in MDA is my passion for the association and the profession. There are so much that we need to do and it is important that whatever we do we need to think of the general interest of the public too, not only of the profession. As such, decisions made by us must be fair, just, and based on principles. The profession as whole is united by different backgrounds, private sector and public sector, universities, specialities, affiliates, administrative bodies and so on. Hence, the voice of the profession need to be one, one strong united voice for the interest of all. Issues like fake dentistry, oral disease burden in our society, welfare of our fellow dental practitioners, future of our profession are just the tip of the iceberg.

Though in many ways, the chair of President is the helm of the association but it is not the President that moves the association. It is the members as the whole, empowering the council members for this matter. I look forward for your support and your constructive criticism to help serve the association better.

On behalf of MDA, I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our fellow colleague, YBrs Dr Doreyat Jemun on his recent appointment as the Acting Principle Director of Oral Health, Oral Health Program, Ministry of Health Malaysia. We look forward in continuous partnership for our future activities.

With this, once again I wish thank Dr Ng Woan Tyng and her council for your sincere guidance. Please continue to walk with me for the next two years. In fact, I urge the whole association and the profession to walk together with this new council. Please keep yourself updated on our Homepage for the final list of the MDA Council for the term 2019/21. God bless you all.

BYours in MDA,
Dr Leong Kei Joe
