Basic Emergency Airway Management in Dental Setting

Airway management encompass patient treated as outpatient, emergency or inpatient setting. Although uncommon, airway emergencies can also arise in general dental
practice. It can result from obstructions as a result of bleeding, lacerations, maxillofacial injuries, or soft tissue swelling from allergies to medications.

Members of dental team have a duty of care to ensure effective & safe service to our patient. This involves planning for unexpected events, specifically for airway
management in dental setting. Key components of management include early recognition of threatened airway, appropriate & timely airway intervention, & maintaining

     oxygenation.
In this sharing, we will focus on identification of airway emergency, basic and fundamental considerations for supplying supplemental oxygen to spontaneously breathing

patient & utilizing a bag-valve-mask system in apnoeic patient.
We hope to provide our team with adequate knowledge when dealing with airway emergency in dental setting.
