WELCOME MESSAGE FROM ORGANISING

CHAIRPERSON

Warmest greetings and welcome to the 30th MDA Scientific Convention and Trade
Exhibition (SCATE) 2023!

First and foremost, on behalf of the organising committee of the 30th MDA SCATE
2023, I would like to thank Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Hisham bin
Abdullah, Director General of Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia, for taking the time
out of his busy schedule to support us and officiate the event.

SCATE is an annual event organised by the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA). It’s
great to be able to hold this event physically this year after almost 3 years of hiatus. The
30th edition is very special as the College of Dental Specialists (CODS), Academy of
Medicine Malaysia has accepted the invitation to organise the 30th SCATE 2023 together with us. My sincere appreciation
to Prof. Emeritus Dato Dr Lian Chin Boon, President of CODS and his council members for their invaluable support and
guidance in organising the 30th MDA SCATE 2023 and bringing the event to a greater height.

This event would not have been made possible without a dedicated team. They have volunteered themselves selflessly
and worked diligently to serve the association and the dental community in Malaysia and beyond. For that, I would like to
express my utmost gratitude to the organising committee members of the 30th MDA SCATE 2023. It is indeed a privilege
to work alongside so many talented individuals, and to have fostered many new friendships on this journey.

The world of dentistry is moving forward at an extremely fast pace despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the 30th
edition focuses on the evolution of dentistry with an increasing trend towards digitalization, updates on dental practice
management in today’s dynamic environment affected by the COVID-19 endemic which fitted our theme “Refresh,
Rejuvenate & Relearn”.

The scientific programme has already been designed befittingly to help us maintain competency, update and upgrade
our knowledge and skills, ensuring the relevancy in our clinical practice. We will also be discussing the responsibilities
and obligations of a Person in Charge of a clinic during our forum which revolves around the theme “Person in Charge or
Person to be Charged” and it is open to all MDA members in benefit.
Alongside the conference, delegates and registered visitors can find the latest market trends, technologies, and
opportunities to explore new business avenues and increase networking opportunities at the largest dental trade
exhibition in Malaysia. In addition, our fellow dental colleagues will have the opportunity to present and share their
research findings with peers and leading experts in dentistry through our Scientific Competition. On a side note, we
take this opportunity to organise a dental photography competition with the theme “Beauty in Dentistry” and “Dentistry
Beyond Curative” for our fellow talented dental colleagues to present the art of dentistry through photography.

In conjunction with this event, we have also collaborated with the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA) in
organising a student competition to provide a platform for young aspiring dentists to hone their clinical skills scheduled
to be held on 18th March 2023 at University of Malaya.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartiest gratitude to the Oral Health Programme, Ministry of Health
Malaysia, Dental Services of Malaysian Armed Forces, FDI (World Dental Federation) CE and Dental Dean’s Council,
Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for supporting our event.

Sponsor, all speakers and workshop sponsors, as well as participating traders who have contributed to the success of
SCATE 2023.

Last but not least, to all of you delegates, your participation has made this event possible. We hope the backdrop of the
beautiful and vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur will add to the pleasure of the meeting and provide lasting memories beyond
science.
