WORKSHOP SPEAKER
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahida Mohd Said
BDS (Mal), MClinDent Perio (Lon), PhD (UKM)
Dr Shahida served in the Ministry of Health as a Dental Officer before beginning her
academic career at the Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1999;
She is currently an Associate Professor and Consultant at UKM. Previously appointed as the
Programme Coordinator for UKM Doctor in Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology) [2014-2020],
Head of Department [2004-2008, 2014-2015] and Deputy Dean (Postgraduate, Research,
International & Industrial Relations) [2015-2017]. She was an appointed Council Member
of the Malaysian Section International Association for Dental Research (IADR) from 2010-
2018, including as the President. Worked with the Malaysian Dental Association publication
committee as the Assistant Editor for the Malaysian Dental Journal (MDJ) and MDA
Newsletter from 2007 to 2011. As an active academic and researcher, her research interests
include Drug Discovery for Dental Therapeutics (antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory),
Oral Health Promotion and Literacy, Teledentistry & Oral Health Management Systems, and
Dental Education. Presently involved in collaborative research and publication initiatives
with various institutions and industries, particularly on promoting public health aspects of
periodontal disease and non-communicable diseases management, oral health literacy,
and dental education research.
Workshop : Malaysian Dental Journal Writing Workshop
This writing workshop is aimed at assisting new authors and aspiring clinicians, especially
among newly graduated dentists and dental specialists, in their efforts to write and publish
their valuable work in journals, particularly the Malaysian Dental Journal (MDJ). Through
this workshop, our MDJ Editorial Team consisting of senior academics and dental clinicians
will be sharing their experience in academic writing and research publication. The session
will include a series of short lectures as the basic introduction to journal writing skills and
benefits of article publication in MDJ, followed by a hands-on session where the team will
assist authors to either begin their journey in journal manuscript writing, improve on their
working drafts and contents presentation, and even prepare their ready manuscripts for
submission to the MDJ.
