Dr. Erika Otaki
DMD (Japan)
SEMCD Clinical Instructor

Dr. Erika Otaki graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from Nippon University of
Tokyo, Japan. She pursued her internship in dentistry at Showa University Dental Hospital
and further obtained her experience at Hino-Honmachi Dental Clinic, Japan. She is currently
an Assistant Director at Ohtaki Dental Clinic, Tokyo, Japan.
She is an active member of the Japanese Endodontic Association (JEA), Japanese Academy
of Gnathology & Occlusion and Japan Plate Denture Association (JPDA). She was awarded
with Certification in Biofunctional Prosthetic System (BPS) in 2017 and Certification in
Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture (SEMCD) Clinical Instructor in 2021. Her
special interest is related to prosthodontic particularly complete dentures.
Dr. Erika Otaki actively presents at dental conferences. She received an ‘Award of Excellence’
for her outstanding presentation. She also contributed to a number of internationally
recognized peer-reviewed journals in denture-related topics.
Dr. Cindy Ooi

SEMCD Clinical Instructor

Dr Cindy Ooi Kee Lum graduated from Penang International Dental College in 2013, Dr
Cindy Ooi served in both government and private sectors for 4 years before establishing
her own practice in 2018 in the historical city of Melaka. Her passion towards Complete
Denture started in 2014 after a momentous encounter with a malnourished edentulous
patient. It has driven her to pursue the innovative SEMCD technique in Tokyo, Japan in 2019.
After her apprenticeship with the Father of Suction Denture - Dr. Jiro Abe, she was certified
as the 42nd SEMCD Clinical Instructor in 2021.

In order to carry on Dr. Jiro Abe’s mission to provide the best fit for every denture wearers,
Dr Cindy Ooi founded SEMCD Training Centre of Malaysia and is determined to share her
experience with like minded dentists.

Workshop : Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture
(SEMCD) Hands-On
The Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture is a world-famous denture
manufacturing system that allows patients and clinicians to feel the benefits. The application
of Suction (SEMCDs) offers many advantages, including the simplicity of its procedure and
an increase in denture retention which results in an improved feeling of denture security
and jaw relationship, and a higher patient satisfaction. While the procedures involved are
simple, there are some traps along the way that may result in an imperfect denture. By
implementing systematic procedures many of those traps can be avoided. In this time,
we’d like to introduce the systematic denture system (BPS) in which the dentist and the
technician do their work according to the same anatomical landmarks.

Topics include:
1. Preliminary impression and bite taking.
2. Outline of the custom tray.
3. Procedure impression taking according to the SEMCDʼs.
4. Pin tracing examination and Bite taking.
