                             Adjuncts to Biopsy Techniques

Specialists in oral medicine frequently carry out interventional procedures in the oral
cavity. These procedures are usually for diagnostic purposes, but in many instances
oral medicine specialists also undertake minor oral surgical procedures as definitive
treatment for either mucosal, soft tissue, or hard tissue lesions.

This workshop will provide an overview of the most common diagnostic procedures
used in the oral cavity including soft and hard tissue biopsies. Ancillary techniques
such as the use of fluorescence imaging, optical endomicroscopy, and toluidine blue
will also be discussed. Biopsy technique, indications, and pitfalls will also be covered.

                             Learning Outcomes:
Understand the importance of clinical features, biopsy and special tests in the
diagnosis of mucosal lesions and their management.

Myofascial Pain and Trigger Point Injection

Myofascial pain is one of the most common non-odontogenic pains in the head &
neck. It is known to cause referred pain to dentition and the surrounding structures,
sometimes leading to misdiagnosis of dental pain and mistreatment. Trigger point
injection is a simple, safe, and useful procedure for both diagnosing and treating
myofascial pain. After completing this workshop, you will be able to detect trigger
points to diagnose myofascial pain, and to perform trigger point injections.
                             Learning Outcomes
                             ■ Be able to detect trigger points and diagnose myofascial pain of the head & neck.
