DAY 3
CONFERENCE SPEAKER
ASSOC. PROF. DR MASFUEH RAZALI
A periodontist by training, she is involved in research and training of postgraduate
students and actively serves the community since 2004. She is also responsible for
the development of the postgraduate periodontology curriculum at UKM. With her
friendly personality, she managed to create networks and research partners both
locally and internationally. Her recent research activity has concentrated on three
areas: (1) periodontal regeneration and bioengineering of synthetic bone grafts (2)
development of zirconia materials for implants abutments and restorations; and 3)
improvement in the understanding of soft-tissue attachment around peri-implant
mucosa and its response towards materials. Crossed discipline with the Faculty of
Engineering and Built Environment, UKM, along with collaboration with lecturers
from the Nagaoka University of Technology and a close partnership with Mesomorph
Worldwide she is working on the development of natural bone scaffold.
Lecture:
Invasion of Territory : Fighting for Supracrestal Tissue Attachment
Gingival inflammation is an ongoing challenge in tooth-supported fixed restorations,
especially when the prosthetic margin does not consider the supracrestal tissues of
patients. ‘Supracrestal tissue attachment’ is a relatively new term introduced in 2017 to
replace the term ‘biological width.’ This session aims to highlight the negative effects
of violation, discuss how invasion can be avoided through exploration of the available
techniques, and compare its clinical relevance to restorative and implant dentistry.
PROF. DR YUSMIAIDIL PUTERA M YUSOF
Professor Dr Mohd Yusmiaidil Putera Mohd Yusof is a Professor in Forensic
Odontology and Dentomaxillofacial Imaging at Universiti Teknologi MARA and an
Adjunct Visiting Professor at University of Turin, Italy. He is currently the Director of
the Institute of Pathology, Laboratory and Forensic Medicine (I-PPerForM), a Centre
of Excellence focussing on multidisciplinary approach for forensic identification and
biological profiling with emphasis on utilizing emerging technologies.
A man of many hats, Professor Mohd Yusmiaidil is also serving as a Chairman for the
Patient Complaint Bureau under the auspices of the Malaysian Dental Association
where he and his bureau members mediate issues and disputes that arise between
both patients and clinicians. He is a member under the International Forensic
Odontology Sub-Working Group (INTERPOL Disaster Victim Identification Working
Group).
His primary research activities revolve around skeletal and dental age assessments.
He developed dental age prediction models and constructed a new maturity scale
of teeth developmental staging based on the Malaysian population. Recently, his
team won Kreso Glavac Special Innovation Award and gold award in MTE and IIDEX,
respectively on automated Forensic Dental Age Estimation Lab (F-DentEst Lab)
project. He has deep interest towards automated diagnostics by means of machine
learning and emerging technologies.
Lecture:
Implementing AI Technologies in Clinical Practice: How Far Can You
Go Without Losing Your Job?
In the dynamic intersection of healthcare and artificial intelligence (AI), clinicians face a
critical question: “How far can you adopt AI without jeopardizing your job?” Throughout
the presentation, the following issues such as the evolving landscape of AI applications,
exploring their potential benefits and pitfalls for clinicians and the importance to be
on top of things will be dissected. Delving into real-world scenarios, the talk aims to
equip healthcare professionals with insights and strategies to leverage AI effectively,
ensuring not only enhanced patient care but also the preservation of the human-centric
aspects of clinical practice. By the end, attendees will gain a nuanced understanding
of adopting AI responsibly as clinicians, embracing and navigating the transformative
