                             PROF. DR CAMILE S. FARAH
                             Professor Farah is a dual trained and practicing oral medicine specialist and oral &
                             maxillofacial pathologist with public and private appointments at Central Queensland
                             University,  Peter  MacCallum  Cancer  Centre,  Hollywood  Private  Hospital,  Precision
                             Pathology, Genomics for Life, and the Australian Centre for Oral Oncology Research
                             & Education where he oversees a research program focussed on optical imaging and
                             molecular genomics of head and neck cancer.
                             Professor Farah is the former Dean of Dentistry at the University of Western Australia
                             and Chief Executive of its Oral Health Centre, former Chair of the Australian Dental
                             Research Foundation, former President of the ANZ Division and Asia Pacific Region
                             of  the  International  Association  for  Dental  Research,  and  former  and  Inaugural
                             President  of  the  Oral  Medicine  Academy  of  Australasia.  He  is  currently  President
                             of the IADR Oral Medicine and Pathology Group, and Honorary Treasurer and Non-
                             Executive Director of the Australian & New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society.
                             Professor  Farah  has  treated  40,000+  patients  with  oral  medicine  conditions,
                             undertaken  7,500+  surgical  procedures,  reported  450,000+  maxillofacial  datasets,
                             and  interpreted  25,000+  head  and  neck  pathology  cases.  He  has  authored  more
                             than 250 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and is senior editor and author
                             of the textbook “Contemporary Oral Medicine” which is recognised globally as the
                             authoritative  textbook  in  this  discipline.  He  has  repeatedly  been  independently
                             ranked by expertscape.com as #1 Australian and top 10 international expert in oral
                             medicine and oral pathology.

                             In  addition  to  his  clinical  and  research  appointments,  Professor  Farah  is  CEO  &
                             Managing Director of Optiscan Imaging, a publicly listed Australian medical device
                             company which develops, manufactures, and commercialises miniatured confocal
                             laser endomicroscopes for clinical and research use, allowing real-time, live dynamic
                             microscopic imaging of tissue, enabling optical biopsy for diagnostic and surgical
                             applications.
                             Lecture:
                             Common Oral Pathology - How to Tell Them Apart and What to Do
                             with Them
                             This  lecture  will  provide  a  back  to  basics  approach  with  a  contemporary  slant,
                             designed  to  provide  the  oral  health  practitioner  with  diagnostic  approaches  and
                             referral pathways to deal with common oral lesions, but also to update attendees
                             on  novel  ways  to  visualize  and  detect  sinister  pathology.  Topics  to  be  covered
                             include white and red lesions of the oral mucosa, common bumps and lumps and
                             their treatment needs, and a contemporary decision making protocol for mucosal
                             precancerous lesions.

                             Learning Outcomes:
                             Appreciate differences in the presentation of common oral lesions and the use of a
                             diagnostic algorithm for management and referral pathways.
