                             Lecture:
Solving the Mystery of Dental Sensitivity: Sensitive Gums and
                             Sensitive Teeth
Have you ever had patients come to your clinic complaining of sensitivity? It is a
common issue that we encounter in our daily practice. However, it can be challenging
to determine whether the sensitivity is due to sensitive gums or sensitive teeth. In
this sharing session, we will learn how to differentiate between these two conditions
and other possible causes of sensitivity. We will also explore the available options to
                             manage them.

                             ASSOC. PROF. DR AKIHIRO ANDO
He is a director and full-time treating doctor at Ando Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine
Clinic in Tokyo, boarded by the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Patients are referred
to his clinic from all over Japan, also from China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore,
                             and the United States.
He is also a visiting associate professor at Showa University. He has given over 100
lectures at dental universities, academic meetings, dental associations, and TED
events. He has published a textbook related to Oral Medicine, written a chapter
regarding Orofacial Pain, and many other articles in journals like Dental Clinics of
                             North America.

                             Lecture:
When You Cannot Find the Cause of a Patient’s Pain, Think About
                             Neuropathic Pain
Dentists and hygienists are the first-line practitioners to diagnose a patient’s pain.
Sometimes, they encounter a patient reporting pain or an abnormal sensation
without any evidence of organic pathology affecting the dentition and the
surrounding structures. These types of pain can pose a significant challenge to both
the clinician and the patient. They are usually chronic, and the source of pain is often
difficult to locate and diagnose. This lecture will cover some helpful knowledge and
a simple technique to differentiate pain originating from psychological issues and
                             neuropathic pain.
